By Aidan Gardiner

NEW YORK CITY — Security was heightened throughout New York City on Tuesday morning after a terrorist bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, reportedly killed 22 people including children, officials said.

Officials indicated that there was no specific threat to New York, but boosted law enforcement levels around the city «out of an abundance of caution.»

«I have directed state law enforcement officials to step up security and patrols at high-profile locations across New York, including our airports, bridges, tunnels and mass transit systems,» Governor Andrew Cuomo said.

«The safety of New Yorkers is priority number one and we are in close contact with federal and local officials as we continue to remain vigilant in the wake of this tragedy,» the governor added.

«Out of an abundance of caution, we have moved additional heavy weapons teams to high profile locations around the city. In addition to our heavy weapons teams, New Yorkers will also see vapor wake explosive detection dogs, highly trained counterterrorism officers, and random bag checks at transit locations, among other things,» NYPD spokesman J. Peter Donald said.

The bombing Monday night ripped through a large crowd leaving the Ariana Grande show about 10:30 p.m., killing 22 people and wounding many more, according to The New York Times.

Investigators there are treating the bombing as an act of terrorism, officials said.
