Ως τρομοκρατική επίθεση αντιμετωπίζουν οι Αρχές το περιστατικό
Ένας νεκρός και 10 τραυματίες, από επίθεση με βαν κοντά σε τέμενος του Βόρειου Λονδίνου
Τουλάχιστον ένας άνθρωπος είναι νεκρός και δέκα έχουν τραυματιστεί αφού ένα όχημα έπεσε, σκοπίμως σύμφωνα με αυτόπτες μάρτυρες, πάνω σε πεζούς τη νύχτα της Κυριακής προς Δευτέρα στο βορειοανατολικό Λονδίνο κοντά σε ένα τέμενος.
Το νοικιασμένο μικρό φορτηγό έπεσε πάνω σε μια ομάδα πεζών που έφευγαν από το τέμενος του Φίνσμπουρι Παρκ μετά το τέλος της προσευχής, λίγο μετά τα μεσάνυκτα. Πρόκειται για ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα τεμένη της Βρετανίας, ενώ η επίθεση σημειώνεται στη διάρκεια του ιερού μήνα του Ραμαζανιού.
«Ένας άνδρας κηρύχθηκε νεκρός στο σημείο» της επίθεσης και «οκτώ τραυματίες έχουν διακομιστεί σε διαφορετικά νοσοκομεία», ανακοίνωσε η Μητροπολιτική Αστυνομία του Λονδίνου, η οποία ερευνά το ενδεχόμενο να πρόκειται για τρομοκρατική ενέργεια. Δύο ακόμη ελαφρά τραυματίες δέχθηκαν τις πρώτες βοήθειες επί τόπου.
Η αστυνομία πρόσθεσε ότι ο 48χρονος οδηγός του μικρού φορτηγού ακινητοποιήθηκε από τους περαστικούς και συνελήφθη.
Η Βρετανίδα πρωθυπουργός Τερέζα Μέι ανακοίνωσε από την πλευρά της ότι η αστυνομία αντιμετωπίζει το συμβάν ως «μια πιθανή τρομοκρατική ενέργεια» και συγκάλεσε έκτακτη συνεδρίαση της επιτροπής Cobra σήμερα το πρωί.
Η Μέι έκανε λόγο για ένα «φρικτό συμβάν» και πρόσθεσε ότι «οι σκέψεις μου είναι με τους τραυματίες, τους συγγενείς και τους διασώστες επί τόπου».
Η αστυνομία έλαβε μια κλήση λίγο μετά τις 00:20 (τοπική ώρα, 02:20 ώρα Ελλάδας).
Σύμφωνα με πολλές μουσουλμανικές οργανώσεις, μεταξύ των οποίων και το Μουσουλμανικό Συμβούλιο της Βρετανίας (MCB), το συμβάν σημειώθηκε κοντά σε ένα τέμενος.
«Ενημερωθήκαμε ότι ένα μικρό φορτηγό έπεσε πάνω στους πιστούς τη ώρα που έβγαιναν από το τέμενος του Φίνσμπουρι Παρκ. Προσευχόμαστε για τα θύματα», έγραψε το MCB στον λογαριασμό του στο Twitter.
Ο Χαρούν Καν, επικεφαλής του Συμβουλίου, επιβεβαίωσε ότι το όχημα έπεσε «σκοπίμως» πάνω στους πιστούς που έβγαιναν από το τέμενος και σχολίασε ότι πρόκειται για «μια βίαιη εκδήλωση ισλαμοφοβίας». Ζήτησε μάλιστα να ενισχυθούν τα μέτρα ασφαλείας γύρω από τα τεμένη.
Και η μουσουλμανική οργάνωση προάσπισης των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων Homme Cage κατήγγειλε «την αύξηση της ισλαμοφοβίας» και ζήτησε να επικρατήσει «ηρεμία».
Ο αυτόπτης μάρτυρας Άμπντουλ Ράχμαν δήλωσε ότι ο οδηγός του μικρού φορτηγού είπε ότι θέλει να σκοτώσει «μουσουλμάνους».
Ο Ράχμαν επεσήμανε μιλώντας στο BBC ότι χτύπησε τον 48χρονο και ότι και μαζί με άλλους να τον ακινητοποιήσουν.
«Όταν ο άνδρας βγήκε από το βαν ήθελε να διαφύγει, να τρέξει μακριά και έλεγε “θέλω να σκοτώσω μουσουλμάνους. Θέλω να σκοτώσω μουσουλμάνους».
Η βρετανική αστυνομία ανακοίνωσε ότι είναι πολύ νωρίς για να αποφανθεί αν ο θάνατος ενός άνδρα σήμερα κοντά σε τέμενος στο βόρειο Λονδίνο οφείλεται στην επίθεση ενός οδηγού μικρού φορτηγού εναντίον πλήθους πιστών.
«Η επίθεση σημειώθηκε την ώρα που ένας άνδρας ήδη λάμβανε τις πρώτες βοήθειες, δυστυχώς ο άνδρας αυτός πέθανε», δήλωσε ο Νιλ Μπάσου, ανώτερο στέλεχος της αντιτρομοκρατικής.
«Οποιαδήποτε σχέση μεταξύ του θανάτου του και της επίθεσης θα αποτελέσει μέρος της έρευνας. Είναι πολύ νωρίς για να πούμε ότι οφείλεται στην επίθεση αυτή», πρόσθεσε, ενώ επεσήμανε ότι δύο από τους δέκα τραυματίες της επίθεσης είναι σε κρίσιμη κατάσταση.
Ο Μπάσου επεσήμανε ότι ακόμη δεν είναι γνωστό το κίνητρο του δράστη της επίθεσης, όμως το συμβάν έχει όλα τα χαρακτηριστικά μιας τρομοκρατικής επίθεσης, ενώ τόνισε ότι όλα τα θύματα είναι μουσουλμάνοι.
Προς το παρόν δεν έχουν εντοπιστεί συνεργοί και η αστυνομία δεν έχει βρει στοιχεία για καταγγελία σχετικά με μια επίθεση με μαχαίρι στο ίδιο σημείο.
Σε ένα ερασιτεχνικό βίντεο που έχει στην κατοχή του το AFP φαίνονται τρεις άνθρωποι στο έδαφος, σε έναν από τους οποίους γίνονται προσπάθειες ανάνηψης.
Μετά την επίθεση μουσουλμάνοι προσεύχονταν στον δρόμο.
Το συμβάν σημειώθηκε την ώρα που επικρατεί ένα εύθραυστο κλίμα στη Βρετανία, έπειτα από τις τρεις τρομοκρατικές επιθέσεις που έχουν σημειωθεί τους τελευταίους τρεις μήνες.

Η πρωθυπουργός της Βρετανίας, Τερέζα Μέι δήλωσε ότι οι σκέψεις της είναι με αυτούς που τραυματίστηκαν από το περιστατικό της επίθεσης, όταν ένα μικρό φορτηγό βαν έπεσε σε άτομα κοντά σε τέμενος στο Βόρειο Λονδίνο.
Ο ηγέτης του Εργατικού Κόμματος της αντιπολίτευσης, Τζέρεμι Κόρμπιν δήλωσε «απόλυτα συγκλονισμένος» από το νέο αυτό περιστατικό της επίθεσης στο τέμενος.
Ο σύζυγος της δολοφονημένης Τζο Κοξ, που ήταν μέλος του Βρετανικού Κοινοβουλίου έγραψε σε ανάρτησή του στο Twitter, ότι τόσο οι ακροδεξιοί, όσο και οι ισλαμιστές τρομοκράτες μοιράζονται μία ιδεολογία, που θα πρέπει να ηττηθούν.
