Remarks on Las Vegas
President Trump addressed the Nation on Monday morning in the wake of a tragic mass shooting on Sunday night at a music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. The shooting claimed the lives of at least 59 victims, leaving hundreds more wounded. The President thanked the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and first responders for their swift and diligent efforts, and offered words of solidarity to the families impacted by the attack. “In moments of tragedy and horror, America comes together as one,” President Trump said. “We call upon the bonds that unite us — our faith, our family, and our shared values. We call upon the bonds of citizenship, the ties of community, and the comfort of our common humanity.”

Presidential Proclamation Honoring the Victims of the Tragedy in Las Vegas
Yesterday, President Trump signed a Presidential Proclamation to honor the victims of the horrible tragedy in Las Vegas, Nevada. This Proclamation orders the flag of the United States to be flown at half-staff from October 1, 2017 through October 6, 2017. “Our Nation is heartbroken. We mourn with all whose loved ones were murdered and injured in last night’s horrible tragedy in Las Vegas, Nevada. As we grieve, we pray that God may provide comfort and relief to all those suffering.”

Hurricane Relief Update
Today, President Trump and the First Lady are in Puerto Rico to visit with individuals impacted by Hurricane Maria and receive a briefing on relief efforts.
FEMA continues to make progress through the unified efforts of the federal government, working in support of Puerto Rico’s response and recovery efforts. The full focus of the federal government is on making roads accessible and providing emergency power for the purposes of life-sustaining activities for health and medical needs, and the delivery of food and water. FEMA and its federal partners will be here for years to come, helping Puerto Rico not only in its response, but also its recovery.
Additionally, the President amended the Florida Disaster Declaration yesterday to make additional federal funding available for debris removal in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

POTUS AND VP TODAY
Today, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are in Puerto Rico to survey hurricane damage and relief efforts and to meet with individuals impacted by Hurricane Maria. They will also meet with Governor Kenneth Mapp of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Governor Ricardo Rossello, and senior military personnel.
Vice President Pence will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to meet with local businesses, community leaders, and Arizona families to discuss the need for tax reform.
COMING UP
Tomorrow, the President and the First Lady will travel to Las Vegas to meet with first responders and families of the victims of the tragic shooting on Sunday night.
