Α act of offer for the suffering fellow citizens

Assemblywoman Malliotakis with supplies for Puerto Rico, collected in her Staten Island office. Collected items included flashlights, batteries, toiletries, pet food, and first aid supplies.Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R, C, I-Brooklyn, Staten Island) delivered a truck-full of supplies collected in her Staten Island district office to Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (D- Brooklyn) to be shipped to Puerto Rico for victims of Hurricane Maria.  The Category-5 hurricane completely destroyed the island’s power grid, leaving all 3.5 million residents without electricity.  Malliotakis’s donation drive was run in partnership with the Community Christian Center in New Brighton, Staten Island.

“Like many New Yorkers, I have family in Puerto Rico and was so relieved to hear that my relatives are safe and sound.  The rest of the island, however, is not so lucky and we need to do everything we can to get them the assistance they need,” said Assemblywoman Malliotakis. “A couple of weeks ago, I joined my colleagues in helping Congressman Dan Donovan collect supplies for victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. We never thought a similar catastrophe would occur so soon thereafter, but Assemblyman Ortiz has really stepped up to coordinate the effort. My district is particularly generous during crises like this because many of them know what it’s like to have lost everything in a hurricane. When Hurricane Sandy struck, we received help from all over the nation. Now, they are helping others in need and I couldn’t be more proud.”
