The Axion Estin Foundation, in collaboration with CULTURAL CRETE USA, presents a tribute concert to musical traditions of Crete.
Panegyreis were principal commercial fairs of various Greek provinces. A panegyris would have been held on the day of the celebration of the local patron saint. We start our journey this first year with an exploration of the Cretan traditional musical traditions as manifested in Church chanting and folk music singing in the island of Crete.
The “panegyris” concert (day two of two) is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. The event will take place at Cretan House, 32-33 31st st, Astoria, December 17th at 7.30pm. Admission is free.
