The Day Ahead

President Donald J. Trump presents the Medal of Honor. Watch live at 3:30 p.m. ET.

In a few hours, the longest bull market in U.S. history

Today will mark another milestone in America’s incredible economic boom: At 3,453 days since the S&P 500 hit its low point during the Great Recession, U.S. stocks are poised to surpass their longest-running rally in history.

Recent gains, “aided by the U.S. corporate tax cut in December, deliver a rebuttal to skeptics,” The Wall Street Journal reports. The evidence in support of President Trump’s economic agenda is stacking up: wages are rising, GDP growth cleared 4 percent last quarter, and unemployment recently fell to its lowest rate in decades.

Americans are now more assured than ever about their financial health and economic futures. In addition to soaring levels of confidence reported in surveys of America’s small businesses and manufacturers, today’s stock market record reflects real value for middle-class Americans with 401(k) or pension plans.

“Everywhere we look, we are seeing the effects of the American economic miracle,” President Trump said recently.

A devastating reminder to fix our immigration laws

The loss of Mollie Tibbetts, a 20-year-old Iowa college student whose body was recovered yesterday, is a devastating reminder that we must urgently fix our broken immigration system. The suspect in her apparent murder, Cristhian Rivera, was living in the United States illegally.

This tragedy should never have happened. While President Trump’s Administration continues to fight to restore the rule of law at our nation’s border, a growing chorus of Democrats is calling to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement while expanding “sanctuary cities,” which obstruct federal immigration officers from pursuing suspected criminal aliens.

“You saw what happened to that incredible, beautiful young woman,” the President said of Mollie Tibbetts last night in West Virginia. “Should never have happened.” Vice President Mike Pence added that “we commend the swift action by local, state, & federal investigators working in Iowa in apprehending an illegal immigrant, who’s now charged with first-degree murder. Now, justice will be served.”

“We will never forget Mollie Tibbetts,” the Vice President tweeted.
