Santorini; Voted as the Best European Island 2017
Santorini was declared as the “Best Islands in Europe for 2017”, with a total score of 89.19, in the “World’s Best Awards” of the Travel & Leisure’s travel magazine. More than 300.000 readers and users the magazine’s online platform participated in the survey. In the magazine’s August issue it is noted that the island of Santorini has won 13 times over the past 22 years that the competition has taken place.
The island also landed at the fifth spot in the “World’s Best Island” list. All islands are rated based upon their sights, beaches, amenities, infrastructures and various activities visitors can enjoy. Santorini wasn’t the only Greek island to get awarded; Crete ranked 4th with a score of 87.30, Paros ranked 5th with a score of 87.06 and Rhodes, in the Dodecanese, ranked 6th with a score of 86.32. Furthermore, two Greek hotels reached the top of “100 Top Hotels in the World” and “5 Best Holiday Hotels in Europe” lists.
The “World’s Best Awards” of the Travel+Leisure magazine is considered as one of the most significant ones in the travel industry in the USA. The surveys are answered by the magazine’s readers who are requested to rate cities, hotel brands, cruise ships, destinations, spas, airlines, airports, car-rental agencies, islands and tour operators. The results are then published every year in August, which arrive to the best suggestions the travel world has to offer.
In addition, special reports are shown by TV shows on networks such as NBC and CNN, which have an important impact globally and more than 900 million media impressions. With a circulation of 6.3 million copies, 7.83 million unique online monthly users and 10.6 million social media followers, Travel + Leisure magazine is considered to be “highly influential for potential travelers” both in the US and internationally.
