A promise kept
Three months ago, President Donald J. Trump spoke before men and women of the American Trucking Associations in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. At the time, while he had good news to report on the economy, Congress was still working to send tax cuts to his desk.
“We want lower taxes, bigger paychecks, and more jobs for American truckers and for American workers,” the President said.
Today, he returns to Pennsylvania—with even better news to share. Less than a month after the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act became law, at least 187 companies have issued bonuses, raised their minimum wages, planned investments, or donated to charity as a result of lower taxes.

Overlooked in the immigration debate
The Departments of Justice and Homeland Security released a report this week showing that 3 out of 4 individuals convicted of international terrorism-related charges between September 11, 2001, and December 31, 2016, are foreign-born individuals who entered the United States through our immigration system.
Recent reports from DOJ and DHS also draw attention to an issue often lost in the immigration debate: gender-based violence.
- A 2011 Government Accountability Office report found that criminal aliens were convicted of 69,929 sex offenses between fiscal years 2003 and 2009.
- A 2014 study estimated that approximately 1,500 forced marriages occur in the U.S. every year.
- That same 2014 study showed there to be an average of 23 to 27 honor killings in America each year—with 90 percent of victims murdered for being “too westernized.”
Numbers like these show that regardless of political affiliation, all Americans should want an immigration system that supports and defends our values.

‘Why taxes matter after all’
Apple announced yesterday a “sweeping set of moves partially tied to the recent tax bill” that will see the company pay $38 billion in taxes from overseas profits while creating 20,000 jobs in the United States, USA Today reports.
“Apple is a success story that could only have happened in America, and we are proud to build on our long history of support for the U.S. economy,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said.
The news is significant, and Stephen Moore—a columnist for The Washington Times—explains why. “One premise of modern-day ‘progressives,’ is that taxes don’t have much influence on how much and when people invest, how much they work and save, or where they live,” Moore writes.
“Boy, has the just-enacted Trump tax bill already proved these critics wrong.”
