The American citizenry have been called rubes, smelly, racists, fascists, rabble-rousers, insurgent, narrow-minded and xenophobic. Not by the likes of Ahmadinejad (he keeps it short and sweet at ‘Satan’) but by our own governmental and cultural elite. What’s got their cocktail circuit all atwitter?
You, me–us. We’re asserting our constitutional right to disagree with what’s happening to our country.
Instead of rolling over and taking the blows as we’re expected to, citizens are going to town hall meetings and voicing their opinions, and then going one step further–the ballot box.
Getting yelled at by an octogenarians was bad enough for politicians. Now with conservative candidates sweeping mid-term elections, the self-appointed elitists in government, academia, and the media are none too happy with the electorate. They are acting as if they’ve suddenly been savaged by a trusted family pet; despite the fact that they’ve been yanking on the pet’s tail all along.
Their failure is our fault. Just ask them, they’ll tell you…
1. We’re Islamaphobic When Known Terrorist Supporters Want to Build a Mosque at Ground Zero
80% of Americans oppose the building of the Cordoba House/Park 51 mosque at Ground Zero, and yet the President has come out in support of it via some mealy-mouthed response about freedom of religion. Critics of those opposed to the building of a victory mosque on the site of spilled blood have been threatened with government investigation by Pelosi, called xenophobic by musician John Legend and told to be ashamed of themselves by NY Mayor Bloomberg.
When was the last time Obama spoke out on behalf of religious people other than Muslims? Well, there was that one time, but I’m not sure if being called a “bitter clingers” counts as supportive. I wonder if he’ll be as supportive of another victory mosque should we get hit again.
After all, he’s confident we can “absorb it”.
2. We’re Considered Terrorists When the Real Bad Guys Just ‘Man-Caused Disasters’
For the first time since Gallup began asking the question, a majority of Americans call themselves pro-life—51% (to the 42% who call themselves pro-choice). Also for the first time ever, an administration official has labeled this majority as. In a document entitled Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano lists pro-lifers, as well as gun owners, veterans, and those opposed to illegal immigration as potential, home-grown terrorists. Meanwhile she can’t even bring herself to use the word when it comes to a group, say, like al Qaeda.
3. We’re Racists For Wanting Secured Borders
Speaking of illegal immigration, 55% of Americans support Arizona’s legislation which mirrors federal law (70% of Arizonans support it). And yet, elitists came out of the woodwork to chastise the citizens of this state who merely want their borders protected and the current laws upheld. From the Obama administration suing Arizona (while Obama, Holder, and Napolitano have admitted they haven’t actually read the law) to boycotts that are projected to cost the state 90 million dollars in revenue.
We’re told Obama might be a tad tone deaf on this issue. It’s not that he’s tone deaf, he that’s he willfully governing in opposition to the American people, and we’re supposed to accept that. This attitude was echoed by his quip to Arizona Senator McCain, “The election’s over.”
4. We’re Ungrateful Because We Keep Complaining About the Economy
While the effective unemployment rate climbs to nearly 22% during the so-called Summer of Recovery, the Obamas continue to vacation and party at the nation’s expense. We can’t help but wonder if this was what Obama meant when he told Joe the plumber that we need to spread the wealth around. Marie Antoinette’s adage rings in our ears (or perhaps in this case, it’s less cake and more arugula…because Michelle says we’re fat).
But the Obamas are only echoing what other elitists have said. In 2004 Hillary Clinton opined:
Many of you are well enough off that … the tax cuts may have helped you. We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.
Americans disagree with this attitude and Obama’s approval rating only continue to drop. We don’t want cake (or arugula)–just jobs.
5. We Supposed To Pony Up Our Own Taxes and Not Worry About Theirs
So why are we surprised when several administration officials are delinquent in paying their own taxes? They love to blame their wives, accountants, or Turbo Tax for holding back from Uncle Sam. But for Ma and Pop Average, what with the IRS gunning up and going after every last cent, it’s pay up or go to jail. It’s a tough pill to swallow when a record number of Americans are on some kind of public assistance. We’re told higher taxes are needed so we can fund entitlement programs, so it’s a little awkward when those demanding our money keep forgetting to fork over their own.
I suppose the elites will have their little foibles.
6. We’re Selfish In Thinking We Can Handle Our Money Better Than the Government
Just like the first Ponzi scheme (otherwise known as Social Security), the Stimulus Plan (aka Porkulus), runs on the same principle. Take money from taxpayers, run it through government coffers, then dole a little bit out here and here. I’m not sure why they needed to do that in the first place, or why they’re planning Porkulus Jr, because they still haven’t paid off the unions spent all of the TARP money yet. It’s a good thing the U.S Mint is churning out all that paper, even though the American people have opposed these programs by a substantial majority. But what do Americans know? They’re obviously too dumb to thrive. Surely the Hank Paulsons and Timothy Geithners are the financial wizards of smart.
At least that’s we’re continually being told by the elitists.
7. We’re Greedy For Wanting To Manage Our Own Financial Futures
One way to duck the heat for out-of-control spending is to blame it on someone else. Enter the Wall Street Financial Reform Act, because capitalism just plain sucks when you’re trying to destroy the economy. Or maybe I’m being cynical. Frank Dodd and Barney Frank—co-sponsors of the bill have proven themselves so above us when it comes to er, financial fitness. These elitists keep telling us that to help Main Street, they must punish regulate Wall Street. Up until a couple of years ago, a majority of Americans were invested in Wall Street with their retirements, much of which is now gone. So apparently Americans who opposed the Wall Street law just don’t know what’s good for them.
That’s funny, since they were the ones who earned it.
8. We’re Called ‘The Man’ When the UAW Wants to Play at Management
It used to be, Americans were considered savvy by tucking their retirement funds into corporations. And what better company than into an American giant with a long, distinguished history. At least until Obama took it over. General Motors came to be known as Government Motors and the shareholders—many retirees dependent on dividends were thrown under the, er, bus, so the unions (the victims) could rob the piggy bank and subjugate the evil Management.
Apparently Obama didn’t realize there’s already a failsafe for floundering companies. It’s called bankruptcy, which would’ve been the answer for GM to come out stronger on the other side.
Despite Obama’s denials that he had no interest in running a car company, he certainly took it over with alacrity. He does that a lot—takes things over with alacrity.
I don’t remember hearing that as part of his campaign platform. If it was, perhaps he would not have been elected, because Americans frown on this sort of Marxist behavior. Karl Marx—now there’s an elitist.
9. We’re Too Stupid to Finance College Loans Without Uncle Sam
Maybe Americans just need to get educated. Academia certainly stand behind their…tenure. Of course now it’s a leetle bit trickier to get a school loan since Obama took over the student loan program. Senator Lamar Alexander explained it this way:
All 19 million students who want government-backed loans will line up at offices designated by the U.S. Education Department. Gone will be the days when students and their colleges picked the lender that best fit their needs. Instead, a federal bureaucrat will make that choice for every student in America based on still-unclear guidelines.
It also forces out about 2,000 private lenders and the chance to find competitive loans. So now for the opportunity to be indoctrinated by Leftists elites, we’ll pay Uncle Sam directly back while thousands of employees in the student loan business lose their jobs?
That’s a one-two punch that should’ve received more coverage. But Americans were too panicked over health care reform to notice.
10. We’re Touched In the Head If We Think Obamacare Is Bad For Us
Healthcare reform—the crown jewel of Obama’s achievements. Helped along by elitists like Andrea Mitchell who told the 70% of Americans who opposed it (over 60% now want it repealed) they:
may not know what’s good for them.
Remember when we talked about more Americans being pro-life? Obama knows better about that, too, because now taxpayer dollars funds will go to pay for abortions. And Obamacare will creep into every area of our lives. Since the government is ‘paying’ for it, they can tell us what not to eat, how much to weigh, or whether a life is worth saving.
Yes, Virginia, there will be death panels.
I think that deep thinker Bill Press sums up the sentiment of the cocktail circuit who know better than us.
According to Bill, Americans are “…basically, spoiled — as a people, we are too critical. We are too quick to rush to judgment, we are too negative, we are too impatient. Especially impatient. We want it all solved yesterday, and if you don’t, I don’t care who you are — get out of the way. And again, basically spoiled. To the point where it makes me wonder if it’s even possible to govern today. I gotta tell you, I don’t think Abraham Lincoln — who certainly didn’t get everything right the first time — could govern today. I’m not sure Franklin Roosevelt could govern today, the way we are again. Just about like spoiled children. And it’s Americans, and it’s the media, and if we don’t get instant gratification, then screw you is basically our attitude.
Which means I forgot one: The hardworking, center-right-leaning, tax-paying citizens of this country are also ungovernable.
