A heartbreaking story

Mother of Saffie seriously injured in hospital

The mother of English Cypriot girl Saffie Rose Roussos is still in hospital nursing serious injuries following Monday night’s terror attack at the Manchester Arena

Saffie was killed as she left an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester. Authorities now say that a suicide bomber named Salman Abedi detonated an improvised explosives device, triggering the blast.

A total of 22 people were killed while dozens of others were injured. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.

But her mother Lisa Roussos, who was also in attendance for the Ariana Grande concert, was badly injured herself. Saffie’s father has Cypriot citizenship and was born in Cyprus before later moving to Liverpool.

Relatives from Cyprus have flown to England to be with the family.

Lisa and Saffie’s older sister Ashlee Bromwich became separated from the eight-year-old during Monday night’s chaos.

Salman Patel, who knows the family, was reported to have told the Mail Online: ‘Saffie’s sadly passed away and her mother, we understand, isn’t aware. I am praying for the family, it is totally heartbreaking.

‘I am praying the mum pulls through and copes with the tragedy of finding out when she does about her daughter.’

Salman works at the Post Office near the family home in Tarleton, Lancashire, and described Saffie as ‘cheerful, chatty and delightful’.

He added: ‘I am so shocked and can’t believe this has happened. I know the family really well and have known Saffie since she was a toddler. She was always coming into the Post Office.’
