MP pledges his commitment to Cyprus
Bambos wins parliamentary seat in General Election
Councillor Bambos Charalambous became the first British Cypriot to win a parliamentary seat in the UK on Friday after clinching the Enfield Southgate parliamentary seat for Labour.
Charalambous finished ahead of Conservative’s David Burrowes.
Charalambous, Enfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for culture and leisure, had been selected by fellow party members to take on Enfield Southgate’s Conservative Burrowes for the constituency at the General Election in 2015.
The councillor contested the position in 2010, when he was defeated by the current MP by more than 7,000 votes but he has emerged victorious at the second attempt and will now represent Enfield Southgate in the UK parliament.
